The Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi, north of Rome, had the honour of hosting the inaugural Electric Touring car series event in 2021. Vallelunga opened in 1951 as a sand oval for horse racing, but was converted for motorsport, paved and extended six years later. The circuit has been given a new lease of life in recent years, hosting the annual FIA Motorsport Games in 2019 and now enjoying unique status as Italy’s first electromobility hub and smart racetrack, including a permanent charging infrastructure. Uniquely FIA ETCR will use both the 1.7km ‘Club’ circuit and the longer 3.2km ‘International’ layout across the opening weekend.

Most famous recently for holding the German MotoGP, racing has taken place in the area around Chemnitz since the 1920s. The modern circuit of Sachsenring, 8km west of the town, was built in 1996 and hosted its first MotoGP race in 1998. The track underwent a significant update in 2001. Its numerous tight corners make it a challenge with a spectacular plunging downhill right-hander nicknamed The Waterfall giving drivers plenty to focus on.
